The importance of proteins for our system and how integral a part of our diet they are is something that was constantly drilled into our systems. The importance given to proteins in our formative years points out to the indispensible nature of proteins in our life. Proteins forms a vital part of our body functions and are fundamental to the body processes of growth, maintenance and repair.

Protein food forms the 2nd rung of the food pyramid. And the thing with proteins is that there are no organs in the body for storing excess protein. The excess protein that is taken into one’s body is spilled in urine or else is converted into fat and stored in the body.

A bodybuilder can reduce the intake of any other ingredient but a reduction in the amount of protein can lead to a serious loss of shape for a bodybuilder.

The sources of protein are almost bodybuilding protein supplements innumerable and each has its value depending on its intended use and the amount of aminos it has. The common ones that one should always have in consideration are soy, milk, egg, meat and whey protein. Each of these is a good source of protein and has its own qualities to boot. For example, eggs are a versatile source of protein and as far as their use goes, they are at times even regarded better than milk protein.

Some myths that are bodybuilding fat loss supplements associated with protein use are:
·    Having an excess of protein spoils bone health.
·    Having protein increase the risk of having heart diseases.
·    Proteins are bad for kidneys and can lead to serious kidney damage.

The fact is that there is no evidence for each of the above myths and one would do well to have the requisite amount of protein that one requires.
